POSTRI Conferred With ENGAGE CSO Special Award

We are delighted to announce that the POST Research Institute has received ENGAGE’s Civil Society Special Award for its exceptional contribution to peace-building on the island.

POST RI’s “Tours for Peace” project has been selected as “one of the most successful 3 projects”, among the 14 bi-communal collaborations sponsored by “ENGAGE –Do your part for Peace” project that aims to foster rapprochement of the two communities through small-scale CSO projects. The POSTRI team was awarded the special ENGAGE CSO Award 2011 in a ceremony at the Chateau Status on Friday, 7th October.

 The ceremony entitled “Civil Society Matters” was organised to acknowledge the people and organisations that have collaborated with the project and in doing so have contributed to the reconciliation effort on the island through their project activities. Apart from the POST RI’s “Tours for Peace”, two more projects “Sharing an Island” and “Bicommunal Film Festival” were also conferred with the special CSO awards.

The representatives of the two leaders, Mr. George Iacovou and Mr. Kudret Özersay, as well as the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the UN, Ms. Lisa Buttenheim honoured the event with their presence. Ambassadors from foreign missions, the High Commissioner of the UK and members of Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot Civil Society as well as media representatives also participated in the ceremony.

POSTRI Team received its award from the Slovakian Ambassador to Cyprus Ms Anna Turenicova.
