Oral History Workshop

Oral History Workshop

28 May-19 June

Members of POST Research Institute, Hakan Karahasan, Zehra Beyli, Tegiye Birey and Dilek Latif,  attended the Oral History Workshops facilitated by Susan Pattie, Yael Navaro-Yashin and Maral Kerovpyan.

The workshops aimed at introducing oral history and other ethnographic research techniques with in-depth exploration of the historical Armenian presence in the Island as the case study. In addition to putting an emphasis on conducting interviews with the living subjects of history, guided tours of the neighbourhoods and researching unusual primary resouces were discussed as methods of oral history research. Moreover, in addition to conducting research, working further with the results of the research and alternative ways of presenting them were discussed with the examples of videoart, photo exhibitions and alternative ways of working with children to pass on the knowledge acquired in effective ways. Some of the participants went ahead and applied the techniques learned with mini projects, with promising results.

These workshops were organised by the Assosiation of Historical Dialogue and Research in parallel to the Speaking to One Another Exhibition (www.speakingtooneanother.org).
